Padded coats
The temperature has well and truly dropped and I have barely taken off my Arket padded coat that I got last season. For dog walks it’s a game changer and it looks pretty good too which is always a bonus! The image above is from the Gucci X The North Face collaboration and OH MY GOODNESS, if only I had a few spare grand in my pocket. You have to make an online appointment to even see the collection and all of those are booked up. It’s rolled out online on 22nd January, so i’ll have to wait until then to see if I can afford anything. Maybe a tent peg!
I suffered on my winter walks for a while before investing in a padded coat. But as soon as I did, I wondered why it took me so long. It’s like wearing a duvet and the one I have is super light too. Just remember not to layer up too much underneath or you’ll be sweating half way round! (click here to shop my coat)
The padded coat isn’t just for dog walks either. Yes they look great over your sweatpants or jeans. But i’ve seen them styled to perfection over slinky dresses and workwear too. Wear with heels, boots, wellies - whatever you like. My motto is, don’t suffer in the cold - wear a puffer!
I have styled up 9 outfits to give you an idea how to wear this versatile piece of clothing. Underneath you’ll find links to all products as well as a selection of other winter coats to keep the cold at bay.

I love this chic look below with a knitted dress and knee high boots. Also, cold weather doesn’t mean the sun doesn’t shine. Always be ready with a pair of super cool sunnies.
A pop of colour never did anyone any harm. This bright shirt from Arket is just the right shade of green. It’s on the top of my wish list.
If padded coats are too much, this padded gilet is perfect to give an extra layer of warmth.
This Ganni coat is incredible It has pink lining and looks so cool. It’s longer length too, so great for covering up and short dress like this amazing Alexa Chung one.
You can’t go wrong with a smiley sweat or tee and this sweatshirt from Love Sweat & Tees is a winner. I have it and can confirm it’s super cool. Size up.
I’m in love with this Uterque checked trousers and matching jacket. It’s giving me all the 70s tv show vibes. This mango puffer jacket is great to give added shape as the belt cinches you in.
Les Girls Les Boys are the best joggers and sweatshirts around in my opinion. Teamed with a pair of amazing wellies (I own these ones and they’re amazing) and a beanie and you’re ready for any weather.
This Regatta coat has a heated element that heats up. Perfect for parents standing around at the side of football/rugby/netball pitches. I own this one too and I have to fight my husband for it - it’s brilliant!
Uniqlo are the kings of the padded coat and this seamless down one ensures you get all the warmth without the heaviness.
Below are some other examples of ultra warm coats. I’ve added a few alternative to padded ones too.
