A new colour lounge for Xmas
Who is like me and thinks a change is as good as a rest?
My youngest daughter hates change and would like her little world to stay constant forever - but I like to switch it up a bit which is why with a bit of eye rolling and initial resistance from my husband, I decided to completely change my living room from a dark blue to a beautiful white!
We collaborated with the incredible Paint My Home by Bell, which is a new specialist service for residential houses from Bell Group UK - the UK’s largest painting & decorating service (and who have clients such as The National Trust and the Royal Household! Paul, our decorator has even painted the Queens loo no less!)
The paint we used was Elle Decoration by Crown which is a new paint with a perfect flat finish. The amazing thing about it is that it can be used on both the walls and the woodwork which allowed us to have a seamless look across our skirtings, walls, doors and coving! Plus our decorator said it was a great paint to work with. Good coverage and easy to apply, which is brilliant news as lots of other paint brands that have a flat matt finish, one in particular which I won’t mention, is not an easy paint to work with!
The team from Paint my Home by Bell were amazing. Such lovely people with the best advice and knowledge. Nothing was too much trouble and they were quick, efficient and super friendly. Pauls prepping skills were second to none and the whole process from start to finish only took 3 days! That’s all the prep work, ceiling, woodwork, door, radiator and walls - in only 3 days! Plus going from a really dark blue to white is not an easy task.
The Elle Decoration by Crown paint was certainly up to the job though. It went on really well and had great coverage making Pauls life a little easier. Crowns Breatheasy formulation meant that there was hardly any odour which was brilliant as both myself and my husband were busy working in the next room.
We went for the flat matt Translucent colour in the Powder range. This collection combines the subtlety of natural shades with a shimmer of something unexpected! The Translucent colour has a blue/mauve tint which in the morning light is simply stunning. The Elle Decoration by Crown range is compact and streamlined so you can see all the colours on one chart. Plus they’re in small collections making it easier to decide on a colour. There’s nothing worse than deciding on a white, then having 100 different shades of white to chose from. With this range, each colour is considered and beautiful making life that little bit easier.
We were astounded with the quality of the paint and the workmanship by Paul. Our house is nearly 120 years old and with that comes a lot of character and quirkiness that Paul made light work of! We were so impressed with the finish and Pauls dedication to making it perfect. He was a pleasure to chat to and have in our home.
The room is now flooded with light and airiness and has a feeling of calm serenity, It is so beautiful and light but the hint of pinky grey gives it a warm tone. Even my sceptical daughter who doesn’t like change, loves it. I smile every time I enter the room now and just want to float around wearing linen and cashmere with a hot green tea in an earthenware handmade mug!
I’m still working on that bit though - however, we are in the process of looking for a new sofa, rug and coffee table, so I’ll write another blog when the room is furnished as beautifully as it is painted.
Huge thanks to the team at Paint my Home by Bell who gave us a complimentary service in return for this honest review. Get in touch with them at:
