Spring style ideas
Well you asked for it, I promised it and now it’s finally here… my Spring outfit ideas to wear now and going in to warmer weather. Now that we’re all able to enjoy al fresco dining with people other than our immediate families, it seems we all need a bit of help getting us out of those comfy elasticated waists and into something a bit more presentable. Myself included. Only this morning I stood in front of my wardrobe genuinely flummoxed as to what to put on for my breakfast date with friends. In the end I opted for a pleated skirt, roll neck, cardigan and trench coat teamed with my trusty converse and warm socks. It felt good to wear some of my wardrobe again.
If you’re having wobbles about outfit ideas, then a good tip is to get some of your favourites out of your wardrobe and onto a rail, if you have one. (If not I highly recommend my one from Habitat for only £18). Then have a play around with other things in your wardrobe to see what outfits you can create. You can get ideas from Pinterest or from my outfit ideas. Have a look to see if you have anything similar and how you can re-create a look you love. This is when you can see if you’re missing any key items that will make your wardrobe work better, for example a white shirt or a t-shirt. Sometimes these simple pieces can be the link you need to build a killer outfit.
I’ve been dipping my toe in gently and carefully. I’m definitely not ready for a full on evening outfit yet, but my favourite dress with trainers or jeans and a heeled boot is allowing me to slowly get used to wearing my wardrobe again without going full on ball gown and stilettos!

Khaki trousers & Breton top
Easing us in gently with a pair of khaki chinos and a Breton top. So comfy you could still be in your tracksuit! A great combo, this is the perfect outfit for running around town shopping and meeting a friend for a quick cuppa. A silk scarf tied round the neck will make the outfit a bit more put together. Perfection.
Black dress & Blazer
A longer length black dress never goes out of style and this beauty with cut out detail is so wearable, so now and a classic that will last for years. For the colder months, team with a black blazer and simple ballet pumps, then add a beautiful clutch for evening. I love this stunning Loeffler Randall one.
Trench & Wide leg trousers
Keeping tones similar creates a lovely high end look and I love it when you then add in a pop of colour that is unexpected - it gives a fashion edge to an otherwise simple outfit. Camel and green is one of my favourites at the moment.
Button down skirt
I love a button down skirt, I think it reminds me of my mum in the 70s. A classic, simple look that can be worn with knee high boots in the winter and sandals in the summer. Understated but pretty. This one by Sessun is absolute perfection. I’ve added a simple white tee and pumps. Add a basket bag and a pretty gilet and you’ve got yourself a really lovely daytime look.
Gingham dress & Cardi
Gingham has exploded over the last few years and luckily it’s not going anywhere. From trousers, to tops and dresses, in every colour of the rainbow, gingham is a fabric that is so wearable and so British that it’s the perfect choice for a picnic in the English countryside as well as a trip into the city. This Albaray dress is a great shape and super flattering. I’ve teamed it with a chunky longer length knit and sandals. But this outfit would be perfect with trainers or boots too.
White jeans & Converse
So many of my saved posts and Pinterest images are of white jeans and a good majority of those are with trainers or Converse. The key is to keep them cropped to ankle length or just above and make sure they’re either slightly flared or straight leg. The below outfit is perfect for a day of hitting the shops. Converse will keep your feet comfy and the gilet will give you a bit of coverage while not making you overheat when you’re in and out of shops all day.
Jumpsuit & Heels
Jumpsuits are as versatile as dresses, easy to throw on, you don’t have to worry about ‘creating’ an outfit and can be dressed up or down to take you from day to night without a worry in the world! This denim beauty from John Lewis is a classic that you could wear to walk the dog or throw on some heels for a night on the town! You can easily swap out the tie belt too and instead opt for a chunky studded one to give you even more of a rock star look!
Jeans & White shirt
Jeans and a white shirt never dates. Just look back at old photos from the 60’s, 80’s, 90’s. Everyone from Marilyn Monroe to Cindy Crawford has worn a crisp white shirt and blue jeans - and it never disappoints. I’ve added an amazing floral sleeveless knit to the mix to give it a springtime feel, but just on it’s own is just as good.
Linen co-ord
There’s something chic about a co-ord, it looks really put together, but like a dress and a jumpsuit - it’s easy to wear and you only have to think about the accessories as the outfit is already ready made for you. Plus you can mix and match the pieces giving you more options to play with. I love all the printed co-ords but I know some people worry about them looking too pyjama like, so I've included a plain black linen jogger and oversized shirt set that is such a lovely way to transition from loungewear.
Satin dress & boots
Satin dresses don’t have to just be for evening, they can be a great daytime option and look so lovely with sneakers or flat sandals. During the cooler months though, a knee high boot is a great choice and when teamed with a poncho or slouchy knit, can be a really great option to choose. Especially if you want to go straight to drinks out on the terrace with friends.
So there you have it. 10 awesome outfits for Spring that can easily be played around with for different scenarios. Swap out high heels for trainers. Add a belt. Choose a little jacket instead of knitwear. The options are endless. Just start experimenting with different ideas, always have a few references to refer back to and ease yourself in gently.
And remember, we may be in the middle of Spring, but this is the UK and that means, the weather is deceptive and changeable. Take a spare pair of socks with you, an umbrella, maybe some gloves and a scarf! Ring ahead to your destination and ask if they provide blankets and heaters. And if not, do what I did the other night and take your own hot water bottle!!!
