Packing for a City Break

So you’re going on a city break for 3 days and you’re going to be exploring the city, having some gorgeous meals out and having a well earned break…. You only want to take hand luggage, so what do you pack?

Now, I’m someone that finds this hard as I like to wear something different everyday - but from experience I know I always tend to wear the same items over and over again, so I think between 10 and 12 items including shoes is enough.

Firstly, check the weather! Nothing worse than arriving somewhere you think is going to be hot, and it's forecast rain and storms the whole time you’re there. If it looks nice, take a sweatshirt and light jacket on the plane with you just in case and perhaps an umbrella in case you’re caught out.

If you’re going to be walking loads, then the most important item you need to pack is comfy shoes. Trainers are your best bet as they’re probably the most comfortable, plus it gets chilly on the plane so trainers and a few pairs of trainer socks are perfect for travelling.

When it comes to toiletries, check what your hotel provides. Unless you have specific hair care and body wash needs, a few days using the hotel supplies is going to work just fine - leaving you more room in your case for the important stuff. Oh and don’t forget you can’t take any liquids that are over 100ml, so either decant your face creams etc in little pots or buy some smaller sizes.

Also check your airline to see if you can take a separate bag onboard as well as a small suitcase. Some airlines don’t allow this and some do - so double check.

Get some packing cubes - they’re game changers. These are the ones I have from Amazon I have the black, but they come in lots of different colours. They are good for keeping clothes flat, storing dirty laundry, finding what you need and protecting them during the flight. Definitely worth investing.

For 3 days away I have put together an edit of some mix and match outfits that you can wear on the flight, roaming around the city or dressing up for a special dinner out.

  1. Comfy shoes/trainers

  2. Co-ord

  3. Blazer

  4. Top 1

  5. Top 2

  6. Light cardigan/ sweatshirt

  7. Dress

  8. Jeans

  9. Crossbody bag

  10. Basket/ Tote bag

  11. Heels

  12. Sandals

Then just add in your underwear and a pair of PJ’s (if needed) and you’re set to go.

Don’t forget your toothbrush!

Below are my outfit ideas using the 12 items. There’s many more you could create too. Like wearing the blazer with the co-ord or jeans. Wear the linen shirt open over the dress. Tuck in the linen shirt to jeans and wear with heels for a night out or with sandals for daytime. So many options and all perfect for a trip away.
