Best Basics to add to your wardrobe

Basics. They’re the backbone of your wardrobe. Pieces that you can build multiple outfits from over and over again. So you want to make sure you’re buying good quality pieces that fit well, have longevity and will work hard for you.

Over the years I’ve bought cheap rubbish only for it not to fit properly and ultimately it not getting worn as often as it should. So I now try to invest in my basics as I would a beautiful dress. The basics are fundamentally the most important pieces to get right. If your basics are right, then everything else will fall into place.

I’m not saying that everything has to cost the earth, you can get amazing underwear from M&S and believe it or not, Skims is one of my favourites and is very good value for money, so definitely check out their range. H&M cashmere is one of my favourites - the shape and quality is good and costs a hell of a lot less than your high end cashmere brands.

My favourite blazer is The Frankie Shop which isn’t cheap, but Mango does really good ones and for an in between price range that is really good quality, then Arket is amazing.

With Nothing Underneath does really good shirts as does Cos and Arket and Sezane’s Tomboy shirt is ‘chef’s kiss’ good. But also try H&M if you’re looking for a great shape at a budget price.

For Bretons I think Boden and St.James do classics as do Sezane. But also Cos and Arket do great stripe tees and Breton style jumpers too.

My most worn item in my wardrobe and something I can’t do without is the wide leg black trouser. My most favourite are the Cos ones which in my opinion are utter perfection, but there are lots of other great styles to suit all budgets. And for jeans, well this is a difficult one as I find its subjective and not all styles suit every shape. But I’ve shown some of my favourite brands that get the denim just right. The Levi’s ribcage jeans are amazing and I have 3 pairs in different colours as they really work for my shape.

So have a look at my picks below and hopefully will help if you’re struggling to find good quality basics that you can add to your capsule wardrobe.
